Truths about the Author:

Truths about my fight with Lyme Disease, Depression and Migraines:

  • I had my first Lyme symptoms in 1988 and was told it was “all in my head”
  • I was diagnosed with Lyme disease in March of 1989. After an unsuccessful round of tetracycline, I was admitted to the hospital and put on rocephin. I had a reaction near the end of my treatment cycle and had to switch to Penicillin.
  • I have had issues with migraines and depression since before 1988
  • My depression used to show up every 7 years like clockwork, but then became more frequent
  • The frequency of my migraines and their intensity increased every year
  • I went to my first neurologist in 2000 and have taken every migraine preventative since then
  • Until recently, zoloft had always easily “balanced” me when my depression was acting up
  • I have 2 best friends, 1 of whom is closer than any sister (Stace) and the other who is my doctor and I trust her with my life (Doc T)
  • Doc T suspected I might have Chronic Lyme Disease in late 2011, but I didn’t want to hear it.
  • I had blood tests in February 2012 which showed markers for Chronic Lyme Disease
  • In July 2012 I had a final set of blood tests and could no longer deny the diagnosis.
  • I started oral antibiotic treatment for Chronic Lyme Disease on July 23, 2012
  • After 4 months, I stopped antibiotics. 2 positive Lyme titers have disappeared.
  • I started seeing a Pain Management doctor in December 2012. I had 2 sets of cortisone shots that month.
  • In January 2013, I had a Cervical Facet Block performed. So far the results have been VERY encouraging.
